While upgrading to the latest version of geosever I decided to spend a little time improving the geoserver deploy.
To deploy geoserver, log onto the geosever box and do the following.
cd /usr/share/apache-tomcat-7.0.30/webapps # this next line is needed only if it has been changed in version control svn export http://eas.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/geoserver/deploy_geoserver_init.sh sudo ./deploy_geoserver_init.sh
This will do a bunch of stuff, which is documented here.
Besides the geoserver upgrade, I moved most everything to a python script (less bash) improved security a bit.
As a bonus you get lots of warm fuzzy feedback as shown below.
